Located 270 km from São Luis, the smal Barreirinhas city is the access for the Lençóis Maranhenses area. In the Preguiças river margins, it is a calm city. the mais tourism attractions are the Toyota tours the dunes in Lençóis, visiting the lagoons (bonita, azul, peixe, lua, etc.) and the tour by boat going down Preguiças river stopping by Alazão, Vassouras, Caburé and Atins villages.

The Lencois park is really beautiful. Kilometers and kilometers of dunes with white sand that seem to be an enormous dry desert. Getting closer you will see that among the dunes there are natural swimming pools formed by rain water, an invitation for a swim.

The best time to visit is in June and July, at the end of the rainy season. At this time, the weather is going to be pleasant and the natural lagoons will be full of water. However, visiting the park ll over the year is an unforgetable exprience for sure.

There are daily buses in Sao Luis bus station. Another options is going by vans that can pick you up in the hostel at the time you want. Going by small planes is fantatstic due to the nice overview of the dunes. Arriving in Barreirinhas, you must contract the Toyota or the boat to visit the Lencois, the lagoons and the villages.
